David came to Avondale United Methodist Church in June 2002. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, California. Upon completion of his Master of Divinity in 1992, David returned to Birmingham where he completed his Clinical Pastoral Education at Carraway Methodist Medical Center, followed with a one-year residency as Trauma Chaplain at the level 1 trauma center. This was followed by a two-year residency with United Methodist Pastoral Care and Counseling, Inc., serving as a resident counselor again at Carraway and satellite offices in Piedmont and Hueytown. Previously, David has served as an Associate Minister at Gadsden, and most recently for 5 years at Birmingham First United Methodist Church. Although David does not enjoy translating Hebrew and know-it-alls, he does enjoy hiking, boating, and reading theology. He is married to Presbyterian clergy candidate Bobbie Epting; and between them, they have four children.
